Dee-1 is one of few Hip-Hop artists who "specialize in making music that is lyrically profound while still appealing to the masses. ...his subject matter is bold and unapologetic. ...its more than just music. Its about a lifestyle, a frame of mind that empowers people to live with purpose and to maximize their potential." (dee1music.com)

"Everyone has a mission, and everyone is their own One Man or One Woman Army. Together there's no stopping us," says Dee.

When asked the inspiration behind "Jay, 50, and Weezy", here's what he told us...

"My inspiration behind the song "Jay, 50, and Weezy" was the fact that I grew up as fans of these guys but I have matured to a point where I still acknowledge their talent and power, but I also understand the important position we all hold as successful black men (me included). So the song was meant to pay homage, but at the same time challenge them to use their fame, fortune, and power to improve the culture around us instead of continuing to condone and perpetuate negativity."

And how did it feel to have the video played on MTV Jams?

"I seriously applaud MTV Jams for playing my video, because its so different from what people would expect them to play. To be honest, I still haven't seen it yet because I don't get MTV Jams at my crib, lol. But every time it plays, I get a crazy response on twitter from people who just saw it. It's like a big wave of excitement. I stress to people that this movement is only beginning, so every single person, dj, magazine, blog site, and TV network who shows love is appreciated. We still have a long way to go, but my mission vision is locked in."
