The Vanilla Ice Project, which premiered this past Thursday, October 14th on the DIY Network brings a whole new dynamic to home improvement.

About the show

Although Vanilla Ice is best known for his '90s music, he (Rob Van Winkle) is also a successful real-estate entrepreneur and a remodeling expert with more than 15 years of hands-on home improvement experience. He began in his late teens with a series of smart property purchases, including his first remodeling project, his very own 15,000-square-foot mansion on Star Island in Miami Beach, and continued over the years. For two decades, he’s been flipping houses — basically buying at low cost, fixing up the property and selling for a worthwhile profit.

On DIY Network’s new series The Vanilla Ice Project, Rob and his crew of talented contractors get down to business and renovate every room of a 7,000-square-foot Palm Beach mansion. This latest project, which he says will be his proudest moment yet, will showcase the latest in modern home features and the hottest in state-of-the-art technology. (diynetwork.com)

My review

I liked it! ...The Vanilla Ice Project is a good look for the DIY Network which is also known for popular home improvement shows such as Bath Crashers, Yard Crashers, and House Crashers among others.

If you didn't already know that Rob Van Winkle (Vanilla Ice) was huge into real-estate and has a passion for landscaping just tune in for a few short minutes and you soon will. His knowledge and experience is hard to miss, yet entertaining.

I think what I enjoyed most about the show though was seeing a bunch of laid back, chill guys with lots of tattoos and crispy clean gear do their thing in a conversational, interesting way.

I really liked and appreciated how the guys didn't just do and expect us to just watch. Rob especially explained a lot about the different things they were doing and why each action was important. He also gave a lot of little interesting tidbits that we didn't necessarily need to know, but made it interesting enough that I was glad he shared.

So far they've done an amazing job with the landscaping and the pool, so I will most definitely be tuning in to see how the house itself comes along.

Schedule

You can check out The Vanilla Ice Project for yourself Thursday nights at 9/8 central on the DIY network.
